We previously wrote about the importance of consistency. Today, the focus is on how to be constant. How small steps are better than all together.

When we want to proceed with a certain task, the first thing we do is create a plan for the task itself. Or at least we imagine the task’s development in our minds. To write it down would be of better help for ourselves because we would elaborate on the content and have a chance to better formulate and understand it.

A false myth here is to immediately do and solve the task before it is to late. Instead, it is convenient to break the task into small sub-items that are easy to understand and implement. We can now solve an articulated goal by working consistently on each individual sub-task. In this way, we split the work load over a longer period, and we are able to focus better both on the single task and on the global one.

It would be like chewing properly on the food you are eating to let yourself enjoy all the flavour of the dish and simultaneously allow your digestive system to better prepare itself for the upcoming work.

Individual small steps have the power to keep you motivated. You know perfectly that you are able to solve that small problem, and you do not find the big picture frightening any more. You are actually navigating on a branch river that is parallel to the main one, and here you can actually browse around a little bit while keeping working on the boat. Once back to the main river, the infinite view at the horizon does scare you less, or it does push you to do your best.
